October 31, 2004

Tonight for some reason I decided to take a pregnancy test. I don't know why, since mother nature wasn't due for another four days. But there it is clear as day, 2 solid pink lines. We weren't even trying so I don't even know why I took the test but I am glad I did. Lanier was standing in the kitchen putting in my new kitchen sink faucet when I came downstairs to tell him the news. I think we are both in shock still and not sure what to think of it.

Today Lanier and I had our OB orientation at Eielson. It was the same as it was last year when we went. A four hour class collecting information for my OB records, recieving information about our appointments at Eielson and procedures at Bassett Army Medical Hospital at Ft Wainwright.

Today was my first and only appointment at Eielson. My doctor here has told us that because of my history he doesn't feel good seeing me and says it would be better if I am seen at Bassett my entire pregnancy. It made me feel better knowing that our little bean would be watched more carefully.

Today was our first appointment at Bassett with the head of the OB department. We went over my medical records and then the doc did our first ultrasound. It was still really early but we got to see the gestational sac and the yolk sac. Everything is measuring right on time.

We had our 2nd appointment today. It was the first time we got to see and hear the sound of our baby's heart beating. It was great. I am 7 weeks 6 days but the baby is measuring 8 weeks 2 days. I have been feeling great despite the feeling sick to my stomach most of the day. I have learned that as long as I keep a full stomach it seems to be ok.

Today I ordered a Fetal Heart Doppler so we could listen to the babies heartbeat at home whenever we wanted. It will also give me piece of mind inbetween my doctor's appoinments. I can't wait till it arrives.

Well today was our third appt. and things are going great. The baby is actually measuring ahead, almost a week ahead. I am 9 weeks 6 days and the baby is measuring 10 weeks 5 days, which I guess is better than measuring behind. We actually got see the baby moving today. His/her little legs were just kicking away. I admit I got a little teary eyed when I saw that. It just made all of this seem real.

Everything seems to be going great with the pregnancy. I have been feeling great. And I haven't been able to fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans for about a week. They are just really uncomfortable at this stage. I have a little pouch starting too. Today was our next appoinment and as soon as the doctor put the heart doppler on my stomach he found the heartbeat right away, a strong 156 bpm. I was so relieved to hear it considering I wasn't able to find it last night. But now I know I was looking for the heartbeat up too high on my stomach.

Well today we hit a milestone. I have officially made it to my second trimester. I am really excited to have made it this far and to know the baby is doing great. Still growing and still has a strong heartbeat.

Boy, am I glad I had an appointment today. It just felt like forever inbetween my last appointments. I am 15 weeks 6 days today so I was hoping they would be able to look for the gender but since Lanier couldn't make it to this appointment I really didn't want to find out without him. But the baby had a mind of his/her own anyway and was sitting w/ it's legs crossed. I got to listen to the heartbeat again today which I love to hear. The doctor also got the baby to wave at the ultrasound screen which was awesome. I also got to see the baby's spine. The doc said everything looks great.

We also have a date scheduled for the "big ultrasound", Feb. 23rd. We are so excited!!!

February 11, 2005

We just started our 18th week yesterday and I have been feeling the little "flutters" for about a week now. It feels strange but great at the same time. We returned our fetal heart doppler this week so the flutters are a sign that things are still ok with the little one.

February 16th, 2005

I have been feeling the little "flutters" of the baby moving for about two weeks now but tonight I actually felt the baby kick while my hand was resting on my belly. It felt really strange but it was great at the same time. I have to admit it kinda freaked me out a bit but it is a feeling like nothing else.
